Who we are

Our world turned upside down on Oct 7, 2023, when the promise of “never again” became an irrelevant dream. and our reality became a nightmare. Rather than fold into our own despair, a group of Jewish community members in the Durham and Chapel Hill NC area initiated a task force to begin tackling the realities of escalating antisemitism in our own towns, our schools, our workplaces.

We’ve recently renamed our project “The Kesher Collective.”

Kesher means “bond” or “connection” in Hebrew. This refers to deepening the connection to our own culture, history and heritage. As a collective, we also value the deepening of bonds and connections across our communities and cultures.

Our goals include confronting local Jew-hatred in all of its forms, and educating our communities for a deeper understanding of the Jewish people - our history, our culture, our values.

Each of us can act alone, but together we can make a difference!

Join us in our journey!

Our Work

Making sure our K-12 students feel safe, included and respected is a primary goal of our work in this space. We engage with districts as partners to ensure that:

  • teachers are prepared to identify and respond appropriately to antisemitic and anti-Israel incidents;

  • administrators employ policies and procedures to ensure students’ safety; and

  • school personnel receive advice and guidance from us on matters concerning Judaism, Israel, the Holocaust and related topics.

This page has limited access to active Collective members.

Jewish Teen Education

Our teens have been subjected to bullying, intimidation, isolation and more, and often are ill-prepared to participate in dialog with confidence. We collaborate with local Jewish institutions to develop and implement programs for teens that offer opportunities to deepen their understanding of Jewish history, culture and Israel’s history. Helping this generation become more confident in their knowledge and enabling them to feel more pride in their Jewish identify can contribute to a thriving Jewish community life.

There is a great deal of information and misinformation about Jews, Israel and the Middle East. We aim to offer balanced, fact-based resources for those who are interested in truly understanding antisemitism and other forms of Jew hatred; facts that legacy media overlook when reporting on Israel and its conflict with terrorists; the truth about accusations by “international” councils and their historical biases against Israel. Check back often for updates.
